ALLVAC ANNOUNCES $27 MILLION EXPANSION

RICHBURG - Allvac announced Tuesday that it is investing at least $27 million to expand its Richburg metals facilities. Jobs at the Richburg facility could grow from 175 to more than 250 over the next three to five years.

"It's an exciting day for us at the Allvac company," said Tucker Redford, plant manager of the Richburg operations.

State-of-the-art forging equipment, advanced electronic controls, upgraded communications systems and an expanded laboratory-testing facility are part of the expansion, according to company officials.

New plant infrastructure is also planned, including construction of a loop road, new parking and loading areas, lighting, drainage and utilities. Company officials say the infrastructure is designed to meet current and future company needs.

Redford says the expansion at the Richburg plant will better enable the Monroe, N.C., based company to serve its customers. "By increasing both our capacity and our productivity, this investment will allow us to better serve our worldwide markets," he said.

He says Allvac plans for more strategic growth at the Richburg location, depending on the global-market conditions.

"This site was set up to allow for more growth," he said. "We have a good bit of land here and this is the place where we want to grow as a company."

State and local officials are applauding Allvac's expansion decision.

"Allvac recognizes that our state's skilled work-force and access to established and new markets are vital to success," said Gov. Jim Hodges in a written statement. "This expansion is a great investment in Allvac's future and a continuation of great things for South Carolina."

State Sen. Linda Short, D-Chester, said Allvac is demonstrating that it considers itself a vital part of the community with this expansion. "I hope you will continue to expand to fill this property you have here with more plants," Short added.

County Supervisor Johnny Weir said he is pleased with the quality of jobs Allvac brings to Chester County. "Allvac is a first-rate employer and a corporate citizen," he said. "Their business requires highly skilled manufacturing employees, and their wages are among the strongest in the county. This is a wonderful commitment to Chester County."

Weir added that the county wants to help the company achieve its goals here. "Chester County considers Allvac a good neighbor and we are looking forward to hopefully working with company president Tom Williams and Plant Manager Tucker Redford and their staff toward their goals," he said.

A leading producer of high-performance metals, Allvac has seven manufacturing facilities in the United States and Europe. Nickel-, iron-, cobalt- and titanium-based materials are manufactured for aerospace, marine, oil and gas, chemical processing, biomedical, transportation and nuclear industries.

Allvac's product forms are ingot, forging billet, extrusion billet, round forging bar, round machining bar, rectangular bar, custom-rolled shapes, cold-drawn bar and rod, rod bar and rod coil.
