Olde English District

The Olde English District Commission, one of 11 tourism regions in the state, was established by the S.C. General Assembly in 1982. It serves as an umbrella organization to promote tourism and visitation in of Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Union and York Counties.

This goal is accomplished in part by attending national and international consumer shows, displaying at local fairs and festivals and fulfilling requests for visitor information. The majority of requests are in response to district advertisements in several regional and national publications, including magazines such as "Southern Living", "Preservation", "Reader's Digest", "AAA Home & Away" and "Discovering South Carolina."  We also publish "Ride and Fly", an outdoor adventure guide and "Art", a guide to artists and their studios and Genealogy, to trace your roots.

The commission produces six brochures: "Things To See & Do and Places to Stay," an official visitor’s guide; "Hidden Treasures," an antiquing guide; "African-American Historical Sites;" "Genealogy," "Civil War Sites" and "Carolina’s Backcountry Revolutionary War Sites."

Additionally, a calendar of events is printed quarterly. These brochures are free. The commission promotes tourism in the seven-county area through an existing on-going program.

The district also operates a Visitor’s Information Center at Richburg Town Hall 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The number there is 789-7076.
