The Chester County Hazards Mitigation Task Force has been established to make the population of the community more resistant to the impacts of future disasters.

The above document reports the results of that planning process for the current planning period, as indicated in the attached table.

Mission

The Chester County Emergency Management Agency is responsible for the coordination of preparedness and emergency response activities that may result from either man - made incidents or severe weather conditions. This agency develops and maintains the appropriate emergency plans and procedures and participates in necessary preparedness activities. These plans include education on Public Warning, health and environmental issues and public self-protection. The Chester EMA coordinates and supports the Chester Haz-mat team (Hazardous Materials). Major exercises for training and readiness are conducted with all emergency agencies, along with key members of the business industry, in Chester County.

NIMS (National Incident Management System): an incident command systems used by our emergency personnel. There are certain training courses that all responders must take and this agency is responsible for providing needed training and maintaining all records.

Responsibilities and Services

  • Chester County EMA is responsible to Chester County Government and The Federal Emergency Management Agency in writing a Comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan for Chester County.

  • To test the plan from time to time as well as evaluate actual occurrences.

  • Maintain a radiological monitoring capability in order to respond in the event of a nuclear incident, war related, fixed sights or transportation.

  • Maintain a repository on hazardous materials in order to comply with Title III Community Right to Know Act.

  • Maintain a Hazardous Material Response Unit with trained personnel and equipment.

  • Assist with training and education of all emergency response units/agencies.

  • Maintain and staff an Emergency Operations Center during a disaster situation.

  • Keep current a Hazards Analysis document for the county.

  • Maintain a roster of disaster shelters and shelter managers.

  • Conduct training in weather awareness at schools, business/ industry, groups and individual families.

  • Maintain mutual aid pacts with neighboring counties.

  • Provide sheltering as a host county to the Catawba Nuclear sight in the event of an evacuation.

  • Maintain a resources listing for a disaster situation.
